A Guide To Creating Quizzes

Blended Teaching is a powerful quizzing platform, with dynamic and static quizzing plus feedback for students. This guide covers the basics.

Updated over a week ago

There are four stages to creating a quiz within Blended Teaching. Follow these steps to build your first quiz:

  1. Create a Quiz

  2. Build a Quiz

  3. Settings

  4. Make it Available

1. Create a Quiz

All creation and management of quizzes is done in the Quizzes tab of the Control Center.

To create your quiz:

  1. Go to the Quizzes tab in the Control Center.

  2. Click the blue + Create Quiz button. This will take you to the Create a New Quiz page.

  3. Add your Quiz Name. This is a required field and will be seen by students.

  4. Add your Quiz Description (optional). This will only be seen by you.

  5. Select the Quiz Type. More information on quiz types is below.

  6. Once you have selected your Quiz Type and set the Points (if appropriate), set your dates and times (see below).

  7. Click the green Save button.

You now have a draft quiz. It will appear as Draft in your quizzes tab, but it will not be available to students until you add instructions and questions.

1.1. Selecting a Quiz Type

There are three quiz types to choose between:

  1. Graded. A typical graded quiz. You set the number of points available. Results count towards your students’ grades, and appear in the Blended Teaching Gradebook.

  2. Practice. Same experience for students as a Graded Quiz, but with no points. Results do not appear in the Gradebook, though you can still view them.

  3. Assignment. For the quiz portion of assignments. This behaves differently from quizzes, so only use it if you are specifically building an assignment.

1.2. Setting Dates

There are three dates to set:

  1. Start Date. When students can first access the quiz. Prior to this, they cannot start.

  2. Due Date. The date by which students must complete the quiz for it to be considered on time.

  3. End Date. The final date students can access the quiz. If this is later than the Due Date, attempts after the Due Date will be marked late. After the End Date, students cannot access the quiz.

Tip: In many cases, the Due Date and End Date are set to the same time.

More information on settings dates is available here.
