To turn a practice quiz into a graded quiz, make a graded copy of it in Blended Teaching. The copy has the same questions and question banks. Your practice quiz, and your students' attempts on it, stay as they are.
There are four parts, and every step below has a short animation:
Make a graded copy
Set up the copy
Publish it and add it to your course
Add it in Canvas
Make a graded copy
Step 1. Open your course in Blended, go to Assessments, and open the practice quiz. You'll find it on the Practice and Mocks tab.
Step 2. On the quiz's Setup page, click Assessment information. Next to Type, click Change type, then click Create a graded copy at the bottom of the box.
The copy opens straight away. It's a Draft, so students can't see it yet, and its title ends in "(Copy -" with a date.
If the quiz shows as Uncategorized, file it under Practice first (in the same Change type box), then click Change type again.
Set up the copy
The copy starts with 30 points, 1 attempt and a 30-minute time limit. Check each setting below, then save.
Step 3. Under Assessment information, give the copy a clear Title and set its Points.
Step 4. Under Availability, set the Start Date, Due Date and End Date.
Step 5. Under Rules, in Attempt Settings, leave Allow multiple quiz attempts unticked. That gives each student 1 attempt. To allow more, tick it and choose Max Attempts.
Step 6. Under Rules, in Quiz Behavior, untick Apply Time Limit unless you want one. Then click Save setup at the bottom of the page.
Publish it and add it to your course
Step 7. Open the ⋮ menu at the top right of the quiz and click Publish.
Step 8. Go back to Assessments, open the ⋮ menu on the new quiz's row and click Add to course. Choose the module or chapter, then click Add to course.
Step 9. To stop students using the practice version, open the ⋮ menu on the practice quiz's row and click Unpublish.
Add it in Canvas
Your graded quiz is new, so it isn't in Canvas yet. Adding it there also creates its column in the Canvas gradebook. If your course uses a different LMS, add the quiz the same way you added your other Blended Teaching content.
Step 10. In Canvas, go to Modules and click + on the module where the quiz belongs. In the Add Item box, change the first dropdown to External tool, then choose Blended Teaching.
Step 11. In the Blended Teaching window, tick the new graded quiz and click the blue Add button at the top. Then click Add Item.
Step 12. In the module, click the new quiz's publish icon. Then unpublish or remove the old practice quiz.
For more on adding content in Canvas, see How to Add Content from Blended Teaching into Canvas.
Once students have taken the quiz, send their grades to Canvas from your Gradebook. See How To Sync Grades with your LMS.
What happens to your students' attempts
Practice attempts stay on the practice quiz and never go to the gradebook. Every student starts fresh on the graded quiz, with the number of attempts you set.
Only want to limit attempts?
To keep the quiz as practice and allow only 1 attempt, open its Setup page, click Rules, untick Allow multiple quiz attempts and click Save setup.
