If you are hosting quizzes or assignments in Blended Teaching and your class is integrated with us, you will be able to sync the grades from your Blended Teaching Gradebook to your LMS gradebook. This step-by-step guide shows you how. This guide is split into the following steps:
Introduction to Grade Syncing
Auto Grade Syncing
On Demand Grade Syncing
Manual Grade Syncing
When we use the term assessment in this guide, we are meaning any form of graded quiz, exam, assignment, etc.
1. Introduction to Grade Syncing
Grade Syncing refers to the process by which the Blended Teaching system pushes grades stored in the Blended Teaching Gradebook into your LMS gradebook into the corresponding quizzes and assignments for the relevant students.
There are 3 methods for moving the grades from Blended Teaching into your LMS. You can have it done for you automatically (Auto Grade Syncing), you can control when it happens by clicking a button (On Demand Grade Syncing), or you can do it manually yourself by copying over the grades.
If your university is integrated with Blended Teaching, all 3 options are available to you, although most prefer Auto Grade Syncing. If you are not integrated, only the Manual Grade Syncing option is available.
2. Auto Grade Syncing
Auto Grade Syncing creates a continued feed of grades being pushed into your LMS by Blended Teaching. Your LMS gradebook will (almost) always reflects what is in your Blended Teaching Gradebook.
Each time a student submits an assessment that results in an updated grade in the Blended Teaching Gradebook, Blended Teaching will inform your LMS and it will update to reflect the relevant grade.
For more instructions including how to set it up, click here to see our Auto Grade Syncing Guide.
3. On Demand Grade Syncing
On Demand Grade Syncing requires you to click a button that triggers the Blended Teaching Gradebook to sync once with your LMS for a specified assessment.
To sync grades on demand:
Go to the Gradebook tab in your Control Center.
Press the "Sync Grades with Canvas/Blackboard" button.
Select the relevant assessment and press Sync Quiz.
When you press this button, it will sync the grades for that one assessment with your LMS gradebook.
It works a bit like a white board. When you press sync, your LMS will first clear out any grades stored in that assessment and start from a blank slate. It will then write then new grades into the relevant student's fields. If a student has no grade in Blended Teaching, it will leave that field blank for that student in your LMS.
3.1. Important Information
You can only sync grades on demand for one assessment at a time. You can do as many as you want, one by one.
When you sync grades on demand for an assessment, it removes all the grades for that assessment in your LMS and replaces them. If you have made any adjustments to grades in your LMS, those adjustments will be overwritten. Therefore, be sure to make grade adjustments and overrides in Blended Teaching instead.
You can sync grades for the same assessment as many times as you want. Each time you do, your LMS will remove all grades for that assessment that currently exist (like rubbing out everything on a white board) and write in their place the grades pushed from Blended Teaching for that assessment.
When you sync on demand, the grades will immediately be pushed into your LMS gradebook, but whether your students can see them in your LMS will depend on your visibility settings in your LMS.
4. Manual Grade Syncing
If your university has not yet set up an integration with Blended Teaching, you will need to update your LMS gradebook manually.
To do so:
Go to the Gradebook tab in your Control Center.
Click the Export button above the table to download a CSV with the grades listed in.
Go to your LMS and manually enter the grades from the spreadsheet into the gradebook for that assessment.
