1. Introduction

The Copy Quiz feature lets you duplicate existing assignments, quizzes & exams from one textbook to another without rebuilding them from scratch. When you copy a quiz, this feature duplicates the quiz structure, questions, instructions, and settings to your target textbook, where you can then modify it as needed. This applies to all quizzes and exams, whether practice or graded.

Copying quizzes creates an independent duplicate. Changes to the original quiz will not affect the copied version, and vice versa.

2. What You Can Copy & When to Use It

2.1 What Gets Copied

When you copy a quiz, the following are duplicated to the target textbook:

  • Quiz structure: The name, quiz type and availability settings (timezone, start, due & end dates).

  • Instructions: Any instructions set for students on the Build Page.

  • Questions: All question content in the quiz, including questions added individually and those included through question pools.

  • Settings: Quiz settings such as time limits, attempt limits, and result feedback options.

Note: Student grades and submission data do NOT get copied. Only the quiz is duplicated.

πŸ’‘ Tip: Make sure you have the entire quiz ready as you want it including the structure, instructions, questions, and settings before copying, to avoid having to set it up again. That said, you can always make changes if required to the copied version later.

2.2 When to Use It

Quiz copying is best suited for situations where you want to reuse existing assessment content with minimal setup, such as:

  • Adapting content from one course to another similar course - use an existing quiz as a starting point rather than building from scratch.

  • Teaching the same course across different sections at the same university or a different university.

3. How to Copy a Quiz to Another Textbook

  1. Open your Control Center in Blended Teaching.

  2. Click the Quizzes tab on the left-hand side.

  3. Search the assessment (assignment, quiz or exam) you want to copy.

  4. Click the 3 dots on the right-hand side of the assessment.

  5. Click the Copy to Another Textbook button.

  6. Search the Target Textbook you want to copy the quiz into.

  7. Click Copy Quiz to complete the copy.

  8. You can then select View Copied Quiz to review the copied quiz, Copy to Another Course to copy it to another textbook, or click Done to close.

The quiz will now appear in the target textbook, ready to be reviewed, edited, or published.

πŸ’‘ Tip: Make sure you have access to the target textbook before attempting to copy. If the textbook doesn't appear in the dropdown that lists the textbooks that are active for you during copying, please contact us.

4. Editing Copied Quizzes

Once a quiz has been copied, it is fully independent from the original and can be edited like any other quiz in your textbook. You can edit it freely without affecting the source quiz.

Please refer to our guides on Creating Quizzes and Controlling Quiz and Exam Content for further information on editing quizzes.

5. Adding the Quizzes to Your LMS

Once your quiz has been copied and edited as needed, make sure it is published in Blended Teaching and then add it to your LMS so students can access it. The steps vary depending on whether you use Canvas or Blackboard.

6. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can I copy a quiz to a textbook I don't own or manage?

No. You can only copy quizzes to textbooks you have access to.

Will the copied quiz automatically be visible to students?

No. Copied quizzes need to be published and then added to your LMS before students can access it.

What happens if I edit the original quiz after copying it?

Nothing, the two versions are independent. Changes to the original will not affect the copy, and changes to the copy will not affect the original.
