Ask your instructor or proctor before you leave your screen. They decide whether you can take a restroom break during your exam. We can't grant or approve a break from Blended Teaching, so the quickest answer always comes from them.
1. How to Ask for a Break
In a room with a proctor: raise your hand and ask them.
Online proctoring, such as Honorlock or Respondus LockDown Browser: follow the instructions your instructor or the proctoring tool gives you for stepping away. If there are none, ask your instructor before you start.
On your own, with no proctor: follow your instructor's exam instructions. If they don't mention breaks, ask your instructor before you start.
Wait for a yes before you go. Asking first means your instructor knows why you stepped away.
If your exam has a timer, ask whether it stops during a break. If nobody tells you, expect it to keep running.
2. Breaks as an Accommodation
If you need breaks as an accommodation, it is usually arranged through your university's disability or accessibility office. Once it's approved, check with your instructor before exam day that it's in place for your exam.
