Blended Teaching allows you to import your own questions directly into a quiz using the ‘Bring Your Own Questions’ tool. You can upload files from your computer as a PDF, image, word file or export packages from another LMS such as a QTI file, and the platform will automatically detect the format and extract your questions.

FAQ's
1. Getting Started
There are two ways to import your questions, depending on what you want to do:
Import Questions Directly into a Quiz: If you have a quiz ready and want to add your questions to it straight away.
Import Questions into a Question Bank: If you want to save your questions first and add them to a quiz later. This is useful if you are building a bank of questions to reuse across multiple quizzes.
1.1. Import Questions Directly into a Quiz
This method imports questions directly into a specific quiz. You can use an existing quiz or create a new one first.
To Create or Open a Quiz:
Go to the Quizzes tab in the Control Center.
Create a New Quiz or Search an Existing one.
To create a new quiz, click the blue + Create Quiz button and complete the required fields, then click Save. For full instructions on creating a quiz, click here.
OR
Search for an existing quiz within the Quiz Library.
Click the three dots on the right-hand side, and select Build.
On the Build page, click the Bring Your Own Questions button at the bottom of the page to open the Import Questions section.
1.2. Import Questions into a Question Bank for Later Use
This method lets you import questions into a Question Bank without being tied to a specific quiz. You can then add those questions to any quiz later.
Go to the Quizzes tab in the Control Center.
Click the Question Banks tab at the top of the page.
Under Course Banks you can view the existing banks within your course.
Click the Import button. This will open the same Import Questions section as above.
Note: From this page you can also click + Create Bank to create a new empty Question Bank and add questions to it manually.
Once you have opened the Import Questions section using either method, follow the steps below.
2. Import Questions Section
There are three main stages to importing your questions:
Note: Do not click Back, Cancel, or anywhere outside the modal during the entire process - doing so will stop the process and you will need to start the import again from the beginning.
2.1 Upload
Supported File Types
There are two categories of supported files:
LMS Exports QTI packages (.zip, .imscc) exported from Canvas, Blackboard, or Brightspace D2L. Maximum file size: 50MB.
Documents & Images .docx, .pdf, .txt, .csv, .png, or .jpg files. Maximum file size: 10MB. The platform uses AI to extract multiple choice, true/false, and numeric questions.
Upload Your File
In the Upload step, drag and drop your file into the upload area, or click Browse Files to locate it on your computer.
Once uploaded, your file will show the file name and size, and a badge depending on the file type uploaded:
QTI/LMS Export badge — for LMS exports
AI-Powered Import badge — for document/image uploads
Click the blue Continue button to proceed.
If you need to remove the file and start again, click the ‘X’ or Cancel before continuing.
Note: Do not click Back, Cancel, or anywhere outside the modal during the entire process - doing so will stop the process and you will need to start the import again from the beginning.
Processing & Analyzing
A Processing Import window will appear as the platform uploads your file, followed by an Analyzing Document screen where Blended AI extracts questions from your file. This may take a few minutes depending on the size and number of questions in your document.
Once processing is complete, you will move to the Configure step.
2.2 Configure
The Configure step opens the AI Import Review. This is the most important step in the process, where you review every extracted question before importing, set randomization options, and choose where your questions will be saved. Each stage is discussed in detail below.
Note: In some cases, the platform may detect few or no questions from your file and display 0 of 0 questions selected. If this happens, click ‘Re-analyze with higher accuracy’ at the top of the screen to reprocess your file.
Heads up: This uses the latest high-reasoning AI models to get you accurate results - allow a few extra minutes for it to work its magic!
Review Your Questions
The top of the screen shows how many questions have been detected and selected (e.g. 10 of 10 questions selected). All questions are selected by default.
For each question:
Click Edit to expand the question. You can also click Expand All on top of the screen to expand all questions together.
You can now review and, if needed, edit the Question Text directly in the text field.
Use the checkbox on the right-hand side of each question to include or exclude it from the import. (Checked means the question will be imported; unchecked means it will be skipped).
Review Your Answers
For each answer option:
You can review each answer Option, and edit the text of any option directly in its field.
Check that the correct answer is marked as Correct (indicated by the blue button on left and the Correct label on right). If it is not, select the correct option.
If an answer option is missing, click + Add Option to add it.
You can also use the ‘X’ at the end of the answer option to delete it.
Create Randomized Versions (Optional)
Below the question list, you will find the Create randomized versions toggle. This feature is designed for calculation-based questions. When enabled, Blended AI identifies the numerical values in each question and generates dynamic versions, so each student receives a unique set of values rather than the same fixed numbers.
Toggle on if your questions contain calculations and you want each student to receive unique values. Before importing, you will be able to review and edit the generated variable ranges. As soon as the toggle is enabled, the number of steps increases from 3 to 4, with the 4th step being Randomize.
Leave off if your questions are not calculation-based, or if you want all students to see the same question values.
Bank Destination
All imported questions are saved to a Question Bank. Choose one of the following:
Create a new bank -
Select Create new bank.
A Bank Name field will appear, pre-filled with a suggested name (e.g. Bank Import 3/26/2027 04:57 PM). Edit this to something else if needed.
Add to an existing bank -
Select Add to existing bank.
A search field will appear — type the name of the bank you want to add the questions to and select it from the results. You can also use the dropdown menu to see the list of course banks that you can add the questions to.
Import Your Questions
Once you have reviewed all questions and set your destination:
Click the blue Import Questions [X] button at the bottom right.
This will proceed to the final step: Result.
If you’ve selected randomize, then it will show Import & Randomize Questions [X], adding an additional step of randomize after the result.
2.3 Result
Once you click Import Questions, the platform will begin analyzing your questions:
If randomization is turned off, the platform will proceed directly to the Import Complete screen.
If randomization is enabled, the platform will skip the Result page and move to the Randomize step first to complete the randomization process.
Import Complete
Once the import (without randomization) is complete, a summary screen will appear showing the outcome of your import. The screen will display a combination of the following:
Import Complete (green): Confirms the import was successful.
'X' Questions added to quiz (green): Confirms how many questions have been added (e.g. 10 questions added to quiz).
Randomization status, which will appear in one of three states:
(Grey): None of your imported questions contain numeric values. These are factual or conceptual questions and will be added as-is.
(Green): Your imported questions have been randomized, forming dynamic MCQs.
(Blue): Randomization Available: shown if you did not enable randomization during Configure but the platform has identified questions that may be suitable. Click Randomize Now to go through the Randomization Review for those questions.
At the bottom of the screen you have two options:
Add to Quiz: Adds the questions directly to your quiz immediately.
Skip: Skips this step. Your questions will be saved to the Question Bank destination selected in the Configure step and can be added to a quiz later.
2.4 Randomize
This step only appears if you enabled Create randomized versions in the Configure step.
Randomization Review
Once processing is complete in Step 2, the Randomization Review section will appear. At the top, you will see two summary banners:
Eligible questions (blue): Questions containing numeric values that can be randomized (e.g. 7 questions eligible can be randomized - all questions will be added to the quiz).
Not eligible (grey): Questions without numeric values (e.g. 3 questions not eligible for randomization. These questions don't contain numeric values to randomize. They'll be added to the quiz as-is).
Each eligible question will have one of two status badges:
Ready to apply (green): Blended AI has generated a randomized template and it is ready to use.
Review suggested (yellow): Blended AI has generated a template but recommends you review it before applying.
Review Each Question
Click the arrow on any question to expand it. Each expanded question shows:
Original: The question text as it was imported.
Randomized Template: The dynamic version, with numerical values replaced by named variable tags (e.g. principal, rate, years).
Variables: A table showing each variable's Name, Type, Min, Max, Increment, and Decimals. You can edit these ranges directly to control the values students will get.
Formulas: The correct answer formula and distractor logic generated by Blended AI. You can also view the formulas for the distractors using the Show formulas option.
Preview using Test with random values: Click this to generate a sample question using random values within your defined ranges, so you can verify it works correctly.
Suggested Tags: The tags used to determine the chapter & concepts covered, and its usage in exams or quizzes.
Reasoning: AI's explanation of how it interpreted the question, the correct formula answer and its application.
To skip randomization for an individual question, click Skip next to it. That question will be added to the quiz as a standard static question.
To skip randomization for all questions at once, use the Skip, add without randomizing option at the bottom of the screen.
Apply Randomization
Once you have reviewed your questions, Click the blue Randomize Questions [X] button to apply randomization to all selected questions.
A summary screen will appear showing the outcome of the randomization:
(Green): Randomization complete — all eligible questions updated, confirming randomization has been applied successfully.
(Grey): Confirms how many questions were not eligible for randomization. These questions don't contain numeric values and will be added to the quiz as-is.
At the bottom of the screen you have two options:
Add to Quiz: Adds the questions directly to your quiz immediately.
Skip: Skips this step. Your questions will be saved to the Question Bank destination selected in the Configure step and can be added to a quiz later.
3. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
What question types are supported?
The platform currently supports Multiple Choice, True/False, and Numeric question types. Other question types in your file may not be extracted.
My file was uploaded but 0 questions were detected — what should I do?
Click Re-analyze with higher accuracy at the top of the Configure screen. This reprocesses your file using a more thorough analysis, though it will take longer. If questions are still not detected, check that your file is clearly formatted and contains supported question types.
Can I edit questions after importing?
Yes. You can edit question text and answer options during the Configure step before importing. Once imported, you can also return to the Question Bank at any time to make further edits.
Can I import questions into an existing Question Bank?
Yes. In the Configure step, select Add to existing bank and search for the bank you want to add the questions to.
I enabled randomization but now want to change it — can I go back?
No. The randomization setting can only be configured during the Configure step. If you need to change it, you will need to import the questions again from the beginning.
Will randomization work for all my calculation-based questions?
Not necessarily. The AI will flag questions it identifies as eligible and mark them as either Ready to apply or Review suggested. Always use the Test with random values option to verify the generated question makes sense before finalising.
I imported questions into a Question Bank but I can't find them, where do they go?
Go to the Quizzes tab, click Question Banks, and select Course Banks. Your bank will appear in the list with the name you set during the Configure step.
