Blended Teaching allows you to use your university's proctoring tools to oversee your quizzes in Blended Teaching. This guide shows you how to set that up for Respondus. There is a separate guide for Honorlock here.
Part 1: Configure Your Quiz in the Blended Teaching Control Center
First, you need to enable proctoring for the specific quiz within the Blended Teaching platform.
Navigate to your quiz: Log in to the Blended Teaching Control Center at https://educators.blended-teaching.com, choose your course, and navigate to the quiz you wish to proctor.
Open Quiz Settings: Select the "Settings" tab for that quiz.
Enable Proctoring:
Scroll down to the "Proctoring" section.
Click the checkbox to enable proctoring.
Select Respondus from the service options.
The system will automatically generate a unique, secure Password. You will need this password for Part 2.
Click Save to apply the changes.
Part 2: Set up Respondus LockDown Browser in Canvas
After enabling proctoring in the Control Center, you must create a corresponding quiz in Canvas to launch the proctored Blended Teaching assessment.
1. Prerequisite: Check Assignment Link Setting
Before creating the quiz, navigate to Assignments in your Canvas course.
Find the Blended Teaching assignment you plan to use. If you havenβt added it yet, you will need to add it on the Module page (via External Tool/deeplinking if integrated, or otherwise via External Url).
Click the three dots on the right and select Edit.
Ensure the checkbox for "Load This Tool In A New Tab" is checked. This is critical for the integration to function correctly.
Click Save.
2. Create and Configure the Canvas Quiz
In your course navigation, select Quizzes and then click the + Quiz button.
Choose Classic Quizzes and click Submit.
Under the Details tab, give your quiz a Name (ideally the same name as in Blended Teaching). You can leave the main Quiz Instructions box empty.
3. Add the Link via a "Text (no question)" Question
This is the most important step for launching the exam.
Select the Questions tab at the top of the quiz editor.
Click the + New Question button.
From the question type dropdown menu, select "Text (no question)".
In the Rich Content Editor box, enter clear instructions for your students. For example:
Click the exam link below to launch your Blended Teaching test. It will open in a new browser tab.
Complete and submit your test in the Blended Teaching tab.
Close the Blended Teaching tab to return to this Canvas page.
Click the "Submit Quiz" button below to finalize your attempt. Page 2
Insert the link: Place your cursor where you want the link to appear. On the right-hand side, click Links > Course Links. Expand the Assignments section and select the name of the Blended Teaching WebTest you want to link.
Select the HTML Editor in the View menu dropdown for the Message Text box.
Find the text for the direct link that you have added.
The exam name will be listed twice. Find the > that precedes the second time the exam name is listed and paste target="_blank" in front of it.

Click Update Question to save it.
The quiz is now set up to open in a new tab/window.
4. Adjust Quiz Settings and Save
Go back to the Details tab.
Set the Time Limit. A good practice is to make the Canvas Quiz time limit at least 5 minutes longer than the time set in Blended Teaching.
Under the Assign box, set the Available from and Until dates to match the window you Page 4 set in the Blended Teaching Control Center.
Click Save. Do not publish yet.
5. Configure Respondus LockDown Browser Settings
From your course navigation menu, select LockDown Browser.
Find the quiz you just created and click the dropdown arrow to its left.
Select Settings.
LockDown Browser Settings:
Select "Require Respondus LockDown Browser for this exam."
Paste the unique Password that was generated in the Blended Teaching Control Center (from Part 1) into the Password Settings field.
Monitor Webcam Settings (Optional): β If you are using webcam proctoring, select "Require Respondus Monitor for this exam." β Choose your desired startup sequence options (e.g., Webcam Check, Student Photo, ID Check).
Advanced Settings: β Click the "+" to expand the Advanced Settings.
Select the checkbox for "Allow access to specific external web domains."
Copy and paste the following required URLs into the text box, separated by commas: library.blended-teaching.com,canvas.instructure.com,connect.blended-teaching.co m,mayflower.blended-teaching.com,[Your Specific LMS URL]
Important: Replace [Your Specific LMS URL] with your institution's specific Canvas domain (e.g., your-school.instructure.com or canvas.your-school.edu). This is the URL you see in your browser's address bar when logged into Canvas.
6. Finalize and Publish
Click Save + Close in the Respondus settings.
Navigate back to your Quizzes page in Canvas.
Publish the quiz.
Your quiz is now fully configured. Students will launch the LockDown Browser, open the Canvas quiz, and click the link inside the single question to access their Blended Teaching exam.
