A Guide to Creating a New Course

Follow these steps to create a new course in Blended Teaching

To prepare for the start of the semester, the first and most important step is creating your course in Blended Teaching. This guide demonstrates the course creation process.

If we have already sent you access to your course, you can skip this guide and jump straight into our New Class Launch Guide for Instructors.

1. Accessing Blended Teaching

If you don't have an account with us yet, you can head to our site to request access here.

Once your account has been created, you can move on to step 2.

2. Creating Your Course

Once your account has been set up, head to https://educators.blended-teaching.com to get started.

Once you are signed in, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Create Course button to open the Course Creation Wizard.

  2. Select the subject for your new course. Start with one of our pre-built courses, or create your own.

  3. Choose your starting point

    1. Import Content (recommended)

      1. This option provides a fully pre-built course with all of our content from your chosen subject. You can fully customize this after creation.

    2. Start Blank

      1. This option provides a blank shell, allowing you to create modules and quizzes using your own content, or by adding from our library of content on your chosen subject.

    3. Quiz Only

      1. This option provides a blank, quiz only course. Content cannot be added to this type of course. This type of course allows you to build online or paper quizzes and exams using your own questions or our questions from your chosen subject.

  4. Name your course. This is the name students will see when they sign into your textbook. We recommend you match the name of your course.

  5. Set the Start Date. This is the most important of all of the settings. This controls the date from which students can enroll in your textbook. We recommend to set this date in line with the date from which students can access your course through the university LMS. If it is set later, any student that tries to enroll will be rejected from enrolling, and will be unable to access the course materials.

  6. Set the End Date. This is the last date on which a student can enroll in this textbook. They will still have access to the materials after the end date, it's just that from that points onwards, no more students will be able to enroll in that textbook.

  7. Select the Academic Period. You should set this to something easily understandable for your students, such as Winter 202X.

  8. Click Create Course.

Once you have completed these steps and clicked Create Course you will be taken to the Control Center for that course, where you can begin to customize.
