Installing Your Textbook in Blackboard

How to install your textbook in Blackboard using our amazing "Done in 60 Seconds" process.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

The moment has arrived -> you've been given your Blackboard course shell, you've set up the content and quizzing in your Blended Teaching textbook, you're now ready to install it in Blackboard. There are two approaches to installing your textbook. Just pick the one that's relevant to you:

  1. Integrated Blackboard Installation

  2. Unintegrated Blackboard Installation

1. Integrated Blackboard Installation

If your class is integrated with Blended Teaching, these instructions are for you.

1.1. Download the Common Cartridge File from Blended Teaching

To download the Common Cartridge file from your textbook, start in your Blended Teaching Control Center:

  1. Go to the Settings tab of your Control Center.

  2. Scan down until you see the Export Course box.

  3. Select the blue Export Common Cartridge button to download the... Common Cartridge. Store this somewhere in easy reach (like your desktop).

1.2. Upload The Common Cartridge File into Blackboard

To upload the Common Cartridge file into your Blackboard course:

  1. Start in your new, blank, shiny Blackboard course shell.

From this moment on, students will be able to access your materials.

1.3. Bond Your Blackboard Course with Your Blended Teaching Textbook

This is a strange sounding, final step - bond your textbook with your Blackboard course. This will allow grades to be synced between Blended Teaching and Blackboard.

To bond your textbook with your Canvas instance:

  1. Click on any of the Blended Teaching materials that you have installed in Canvas.

  2. Click on the blue button Log in to Blended Control Center.

  3. If you are already logged in, it will present you with your textbooks. Select the appropriate textbook from the list that matches the Canvas instance. Note, this step is irreversible. It bonds your Blended Teaching textbook to this Canvas Course. Like swans, they stay together forever. So just make sure you choose the right swan. I mean, textbook.

That's done, you can now close this window. Your textbook is now installed. πŸ™Œ

Note, once the bonding step is completed, Automatic Grade Syncing will automatically be turned on. If you do not want automatic grade syncing, you can turn it off on the Settings page of your Control Center.

2. Unintegrated Blackboard Installation

For unintegrated classes, the installation process is split in two stages: firstly download the Common Cartridge file from Blended Teaching, and secondly, upload it into Canvas. Follow the step-by-step guide below.

2.1. Download the Common Cartridge File from Blended Teaching

To download the Common Cartridge file from your textbook:

  1. Start in the Settings tab of your Control Center for your Blended Teaching textbook.

  2. Scan down until you see the Export Course box.
