Sometimes an assessment question simply doesn’t work out as planned. Students might perform poorly on it because the question is confusing or misphrased, or a question covering material you haven’t yet covered in class may slip through into an assessment.
When this happens, you may decide that every student who attempted the question should receive full credit, regardless of their answer.
We refer to these as "dud" questions.
This guide explains how to handle dud questions in two sections:
What is a dud question? – Definition and how credit is awarded.
How do I mark a question as a dud? – Steps for requesting that a question be marked as a dud.
1. What is a dud question?
A dud question is an assessment question that did not work well for your class for any number of reasons (e.g., ambiguous wording, incorrect content, or technical issues). When a question is declared a dud:
All students who attempted the question receive full credit for it, regardless of the answer they submitted.
Students who did not attempt the question do not receive any points.
2. How do I mark a question as a dud?
Currently, marking a question as a dud requires assistance from the Blended Teaching team. To request this change:
Wait until the assessment has closed. Dud status is applied only after the quiz or exam deadline has passed.
Contact support. Reach out through the in‑platform support bot or send an email to help@blended‑teaching.com.
Provide the necessary details. Include the name of the assessment and the specific question you want to mark as a dud.
Within the next day of receiving the request, the support team will award points to all students who attempted the question. Students who skipped the question will not receive credit.
