I can't see my "Grade Sync" button in the Blended Teaching Gradebook

If you can't see the "Grade Sync" button, it's because you are either not integrated, or need make one tweak (details included here).

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Grade Syncing is one of the best features of integrating with Blended Teaching. But sometimes there are issues getting set up that mean you can't see the "Grade Sync" button. Here's why, and what to do.

1. Reasons for Missing Grade Sync Button

The grade sync button appears on the Gradebook. When you press it, it pushes grades from Blended Teaching to your LMS gradebook automatically, without you having to copy them across in spreadsheets.

There are two reasons you may be missing the Grade Sync button.

  1. You haven't quite completed setup. If your university is integrated with Blended Teaching, this is probably the problem. It's an easy thing to miss, and an easy thing to fix (see below).

  2. Blended Teaching is not integrtated at your university. If that is the case, if you put us in touch with your LMS Administrator at the university, we can set up the integration.

2. Finalizing the Setup in Your LMS

If your problem relates to point (1) above, then this is the solution.

There is a new step recently added to the setup process, that makes your LMS course shell bond with your Blended Teaching textbook. This means your Blended Teaching textbook is paired with your unique course shell. A bit like swans, once they are bonded, they can never be parted.

If you haven't done the bonding step yet, you wont see the grade sync button.

If you have any issues with the instructions below, we are always happy to ump on a zoom. Just ask Blended Bot to set that up for you.

Canvas

To make the bond in Canvas, follow these steps:

  1. In the Home tab of your Canvas course, go to any module you like. It doesn't matter which one.

  2. Click the + button in the grey bar at the top of the module.

  3. This will open a box asking you to Add Item....

  4. There is a dropdown menu near the top that says Add and then a dropdown menu that probably has pre-selected Assignment. Cilck on this to open the dropdown menu and select External Tool.

  5. It will give you a list of tools you can open. Select Blended Teaching from the list of potential apps.

The system will ask you to confirm which Blended Teaching textbook you want to link to this Canvas class. Select the relevant one, and click Save Selection. Then you can close the following browser window.

Now you can go back and see the Sync Grades button.
