The Start Date and End Date are important to get right. They define what students can see, and whether or not they can get access. This short guide provies support in how to correctly set them up.

Course Details

The Start Date and End Date fields are found in the Course Details section of the Settings tab in your Control Center.

The Course Details section includes the following fields: Name, Academic Period, Start Date and End Date.

Name

This is the course name, and should match the name provided to students in your course syllabus. It's up to you whether you want to include the course code within the name.

Academic Period

This refers to the semester or term which you are teaching. Most people choose names that match the university calendar, such as Fall 2028 or Term 2 2028. We recommend to pick a name that makes most sense to you and your students.

Start Date

This piece of data is important. This date should be the earliest possible date a student could sign up to this textbook. This is usually earlier than the start date of the course.

If a student signs up prior to the Start Date that you set here, they will not be included in your course.

End Date

The End Date is the same as the course end date set in your syllabus.

Any student that signs up to the textbook after the End Date will not be included in your course. This is usually not an issue, students don't tend to sign up to courses right at the end. It's the Start Date we recommend caution with.
