How to Install the Blended Teaching App in Canvas

This guide walks you through installing the Blended Teaching app in Canvas. It takes 3 minutes.

In order to integrate Blended Teaching content into your class in Canvas, you will need Blended Teaching to be installed as an App in Canvas. This guide shows you how, in the following steps:

  1. Check if you have the Blended Teaching App

  2. Check if you can add an App

  3. Install the App


1. Check if you have the Blended Teaching App

To check if you have the Blended Teaching App, start in Canvas:

  1. Click on Settings in the menu bar on the left.

  2. Go to the tab called Apps.

  3. Click on View App Configurations. The page will show you a list of installed Apps in alphabetical order.

  4. If it has been installed, the Blended Teaching App will be in that list.

If it is, you can close this guide. If not, carry on to the next step.

2. Check if you can add an App

In some instances, universities instructors the power to install apps.. If so, you can install the Blended Teaching App now. If not, you will need to contact the LMS administrator for your university and let them know that you want the app installed for your course.

Here's how to check if you have the power to install the app.

  1. In Canvas, go to the Settings tab in the Navigation Bar, usually on the left hand side of the screen.

  2. Go to the top of the screen and click on the Apps tab.

  3. Click the grey "View App Configurations" button.

  4. If you see a blue button that says "+ App", then you have the power to add Blended Teaching. Carry on to the next step.

If you do not see this button, you need to contact your LMS administrator and ask them to install the Blended Teaching App for you.

3. Installing The Blended Teaching App

If you have the power to install the Blended Teaching App (as found in the step above), you first need to find your Client ID.

To find your client ID:

  1. Start in your Control Center in Blended Teaching and navigate to the Settings page.

  2. Scroll down on the Settings page until you find the section called Canvas Integration. Here you will see your Client ID. Click Copy.

  3. If you can't see a Client ID in that section, just contact us through the bot and let us know you can't find your Client ID, and we'll quickly investigate and resolve it for you.

Now that you have your Client ID, it's time to go back to Canvas to continue the installation.

To install the Blended Teaching App, follow these steps:

  1. In Canvas, go to the Settings tab in the Navigation Bar, usually on the left hand side of the screen.

  2. Go to the top of the screen and click on the Apps tab.

  3. Click the grey "View App Configurations" button.

  4. Click on the blue "+ App" button.

  5. This will open up a form for you to full in some details. Go to the drop down menu at the top of the form and select "By Client ID".

  6. Add in your Client ID where requested.

  7. Once these steps are completed, the Blended Teaching app is installed. You can now leave this section of Canvas.

Note - If you can't see the Blended Teaching App straight away, don't worry, it can take up to 1 day to appear (but it's usually instant).
