Why We Care About Ad Blockers
We don't like pop-up ads any more than the next person. Frankly, they're a pain in the.... And there is some great tech built into almost all browsers that blocks the majority of them from popping up in your face.
This software is known as ad-blokers.
The issue is that we use similar technology to track your progress and performance in Blended Teaching, which allows us to improve your learning experience and report your progress and results with your university.
Ad-blocking software built into your browser sometimes identifies Blended Teaching as a pesky pop-up ad, and blocks us from tracking your performance. In many cases, if we can't track your progress and performance, not only will you get a degraded learning experience, but your university may also penalize your grade because they don't know your performance.
The good news is that it's easy to permit Blended Teaching to do its thing, whilst still keeping the ads blocked. The instructions vary depending on your browser, so we've listed the main ones below.
Google Chrome
Visit the website: Go to mayflower.blended-teaching.com.
View Site Information: To the left of the website address in the address bar, select the "View site information" icon (it might look like a padlock or an information symbol).
Site Settings: Select "Site settings".
Intrusive Ads: Under "Privacy and security," find "Intrusive ads".
Allow: Select "Allow" from the drop-down menu.
Reload: Reload the webpage.
Firefox
Visit the website: Open Firefox and go to mayflower.blended-teaching.com.
Shield Icon: Click the shield icon to the left of the address bar.
Enhanced Tracking Protection: Toggle off the "Enhanced Tracking Protection" switch at the top of the panel. This will disable it for the site, and the page will reload automatically.
Microsoft Edge
Visit the website: Go to mayflower.blended-teaching.com.
View Site Information: Click the info button to the left of the address bar.
Tracking Prevention: Under "Tracking prevention," select "Off" from the drop-down menu.
Refresh: Click "Refresh" to apply the change.
Safari (Mac)
Visit the website: Open Safari and go to mayflower.blended-teaching.com.
Safari Preferences: In the top menu bar, click "Safari" and then select "Settings" or "Preferences".
Websites: Choose the "Websites" tab.
Content Blockers: Select "Content Blockers" from the left sidebar.
Disable for website: Find "mayflower.blended-teaching.com" in the list and select "Off" from the drop-down menu next to it.
Close: Close the Preferences window.
3rd Party Ad Blockers and VPNs
Many people use VPNs and ad blockers that are added as browser extensions. Both of these can interfere with the technology Blended Teaching uses to track progress. To disable ad blocking for these tools, please check their support pages. You will need to turn off blocking, or 'whitelist' the following domains:
